HELTAS was a major modification program to
the CH124 Sea King (H-3) helicopter, and as the
prime contractor, I.M.P. had total system responsibility for the
sixteen different design elements associated with this upgrade. The
modification provided the Customer with significant aircraft mission improvements
as well as future growth capability. The three-year project
involved modifying six helicopters.
I.M.P. managed the procurement of systems hardware
and engineering services of five major subcontractors. We also
designed, prototyped, manufactured and installed aircraft mechanical and
electrical components as well as equipment system-to-system interfaces.
The modification also included the design, manufacture and installation
of new sonobuoy racks. I.M.P. provided the Customer with a unique design
that increased sonobuoy handling safety, decreased operator workload, and
provided increased storage space for sonobuoys, tape recorders and
miscellaneous storage containers.
