Cascade Aerospace Delivers Q400-PF Package Freighters to Bluebird Aviation
Cascade Aerospace, part of IMP Aerospace & Defence, will soon deliver a second Q400-PF Package Freighter to Kenya’s Bluebird Aviation. Cascade delivered the first aircraft in February, and the two aircraft are joining a third Q400-PF Package Freighter which Bluebird acquired from a prior operator in 2011. Bluebird Aviation’s recent order for two more Q400-PF kits and conversions will bring their fleet to a total of five Q400-PF Package Freighters.
“Cascade’s Q400-PF Package Freighter is very suited to our operation because it gives us the flexibility we need in terms of what we can transport”, says Bluebird Aviation spokesperson, Captain Adan. “For us this ranges from palletized bulk items, for example, to multiple separate containers, or over-sized industrial equipment – depending on what our customers need.”
Cascade is the designer and manufacturer of the Package Freighter conversion kit, and in the case of Bluebird, also the kit installer.
Cascade offers similar Package Freighter kits to operators and owners of the Bombardier CRJ100/200 regional aircraft, and has sold eight CRJ100/200-PF kits to date. AvMax Aviation Services Inc. of Calgary, AB purchased three of the CRJ-PF kits and is installing the kits themselves at their Calgary facility. Cascade has named AvMax the preferred PF kit installer in North America, and in Europe Sabena Technics in Dinard, France and Slovenia’s Adria Airways Tehnika.
“Our Package Freighters are designed to transport package freight such as mail and/or containers of various shapes and sizes, including dangerous goods and dry ice,” says Cascade’s Justin Currie, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer.
