Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre

08-July-2021

Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre is pleased to announce that the Oak & Oar Eatery has been completely refreshed by Bricks + Birches and Past Future Design Build. It now has a new look and feel of a country beach house setting on the water surrounded by beautiful panoramic views. The Oak & Oar hosts a huge overhead beam wrap constructed with white oak that adds warmth and character to the space. A unique rope piece separates the entrance from the service station, and rope-wrapped poles add texture, visual distinction, and a nautically inspired vibe. The new oar wall acts as a room divider breaking it into cozy more intimate spaces. Finishing touches, such as custom-built planter boxes, add colour and light throughout the room. Last but not least, as you enter the restaurant, the beautiful Oak & Oar wood grain sign is the perfect pairing to complement the white shiplap wall. Our four-season property renovation encompasses 104 guestrooms, common space, Three Sheets Bar + Social, indoor pool, and refreshed popular oceanfront chalets.

Oak Island Resort’s culinary outlets are led by Chef Nathan Guggenheimer as Director of Culinary. Chef Nathan has travelled the world developing his diverse skillset and has had the opportunity to work under culinary powerhouse chefs, Daniel Boulud, David Hawksworth, and Phil Howard.

The newest addition to the culinary team is forager and chef, Stéphane Levac. Chef Stéphane made a name for himself having operated his own catering business, Frais Catering, in the Annapolis Valley with his partner, Sarah Morrison. Since then, he has worked in the kitchen at Studio East in Halifax under Chef Ray Bear and has also been the kitchen supervisor at Just Us! Coffee Roasters. Most recently, Chef Stéphane worked at the Maritime Express Cider Co. in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Chef Stéphane says food is a way of reconnecting with his indigenous roots and is looking forward to sharing his traditions and plates with us.

Chefs Guggenheimer and Levac are both former contestants on Top Chef Canada. Chef Levac recently aired on Season 9.

Guests at Oak Island Resort can enjoy fresh regional cuisine with two dining options, Oak & Oar and Three Sheets Bar + Social. “The local food movement is not a fad – we are embracing what we have around us,” says Chef Guggenheimer. “The dishes will be inspired by Nova Scotian recipes and we’ll use local ingredients and add our own Oak Island twist - taking them to the next level.”

Guests will also enjoy the new outdoor seaside Blankenship’s Landing event space which is perfect for weddings and various events.

To help guests enjoy the surrounding area, the resort offers tours by boat with Salty Dog Sea Tours. This adventurous and informative tour is guided by owner, Tony Sampson, a professional diver who is regularly featured on the highly viewed television series, The Curse of Oak Island.

There will be something for everyone year-round to give an authentically Nova Scotian experience at every touch point topped with signature Nova Scotian hospitality. Guests will love the unique character and casual luxury of our seacoast resort nestled perfectly between the best little towns, Chester, Mahone Bay, and Lunenburg on Nova Scotia’s South Shore.
